Rick Tomasi is an Italian/Irish artist living in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Since 2021 he has focused on art and design. His work mainly centres around numbers, geometry, ratios and proportions. He has been described as ‘futurist’, perhaps due to having studied engineering in northern Italy.
He approaches each piece as a problem to solve, and will start a new artwork with pencil and paper. The final sketch will be then made into acetates, and screens will be prepped. Rick will spend a lot of time mixing and testing paints until completely satisfied of the final palette. The final piece will be a limited run screen-print. He works from Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop, Sudbury. This year has seen him delve into the topic of ‘light and shade’.

Biography
Rick was born in Trento, Italy. Drawing and sketching was a big part of his childhood, as it was alone time away from his eight siblings. He did most of his schooling in his mother’s homeland of Ireland, taking Art for his Leaving Cert (A Levels).
He returned to the Alps for university, studying engineering in Trento, followed by an MA in London where he lived for 9 years. During this time, he kept his thirst for art quenched by designing logos and posters for companies and events across the North East of Italy. It would take a global pandemic to push Rick back onto the artistic path for good. The first year was spent making digital images, until a course in screen-printing in early 2023 convinced him that this traditional printmaking method was best suited to his current style.
The following year saw him selected as one of two Guest Artists by Artworks East, and he also joined Gainsborough’s House (birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough, who like Rick also had 4 brothers and 4 sisters) Print Workshop in order to increase his productivity.
The highlight of 2025, so far, was having ‘Red Chair’ selected for the prestigious Royal Society of British Artists’ Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in February.
