The themes in Rick’s work vary but there is a commonality: his simple style, which embraces clean lines and strong colour palettes. It is why he has found, for now, that screen printing is the best medium to express himself. Simplicity is hard to achieve and is the dominant element in the works, which is reached by applying a rational mind to a creative endeavour. No piece is by chance. Proportions, ratios, and colour balance are tried and retested before going to print. His work has been likened to early 20th century ‘futurismo italiano’, and OpArt of the mid-century, both periods that inspire him most. His next adventure will be exploring the area of ‘functional art’. Artworks that have a use. His latest work is ‘Time’, a collection of prints with the centre piece being a clock.

Biography
Rick is an artist living in Ely and working from Sudbury. His mother is Irish and his father is Italian. His schooling was completed on the west coast of Ireland, and university (engineering) was under the shadow of the Dolomites, Italy. These two experiences are important to how he expresses himself artistically. It was in 2023 that he decided to turn his full attention to printmaking. In 2025 one of his pieces was selected by the Royal Society of British Artists’ Annual Exhibition. But the journey was not as quick as it may seem. From his university days, he has been always putting ideas to paper so once he decided to print he had a back catalogue of sketches to lean on.
