‘Draw bamboos for ten years, become a bamboo then forget all about bamboos when you are drawing‘ – this Zen teaching is my mantra.
My career as a professional illustrator has given me a lifetime of ‘drawing bamboos’ and now my aim is to get to the heart of my being and sing new songs with my creative voice. Plants, flowers and the human face and form are my subject matter and oils and soft pastels allow me to work on a larger scale. Underlying all my work is an ever-present commitment to drawing which leads me full circle, back to my roots and new beginnings.

I began my art training at Dartington in Devon and went on to study graphic design at Hornsey College of Art, BA (Hons). Following this I worked in the publishing industry in London, both as art director and freelance illustrator. My work has been applied to greetings cards, fabric, ceramics, stationery, calendars and tinware and published extensively. In 2005 my book ‘In Zen Garden’ was published by Frances Lincoln.
Moving to Suffolk 8 years ago has given me the time and freedom to develop my practice in new ways and to exhibit my work locally. I am delighted to be exhibiting with Artworks again in 2022.
I am a member of Suffolk Open Studios and the Colchester Art Society.
