Today at ARTWORKS 2015: Cathy D’Arcy – how to make a happy can topper in clay

Meet the Artist: daily presentations at ARTWORKS 2015

Today, Tuesday 22 September 2015, Cathy D’Arcy will be in the main exhibition area demonstrating how to make a ‘happy cane topper’ in clay. Wonderful garden accessories to bring some cheer to winter gardens. Fun for children to make. Drop by and get inspired – with free entry to the exhibition.

Cathy explains: These are ‘cane toppers’ to go on the sticks in the garden to stop you getting a poke in the eye when bending down near a plant support stick. Or put them in flower pots in the winter so there is something fun to look at when the plants are not in flower.

Cathy D’Arcy will be working in the main gallery of the ARTWORKS exhibition from 10am to 4pm.

Liz will be at the exhibition today demonstrating creative drawing techniques with glass. This is an ideal opportunity for visitors to find out more about the ideas, techniques and processes involved in the creation of her sculptural artworks in the exhibition.

In addition to her work as an artist, Liz also runs Obelon Arts, which produces theatre shows and organises arts projects. She is also a member of the Contemporary Glass Society.

I enjoy working in glass because of its versatility: transparency, opacity, colour, two or three dimensionality, capacity to ‘hold’ or reflect light. It offers an artist many metaphors due to its fragility, strength, sharpness and associations. I am inspired by fragments of stories often discovered in books, toys, archival film footage, photographs which I have inherited.

Liz Waugh McManus will be at the ARTWORKS exhibition from 10am – 4pm.

Meet the Artist: daily presentations at ARTWORKS 2015: Kate Reynolds – Figures with Clay

Meet the Artist: daily presentations at ARTWORKS 2015

Today, Wednesday 16th September 2015, ceramic sculptor Kate Reynolds will be at the ARTWORKS exhibition demonstrating how to create clay heads and figures.

Kate’s ceramic sculptures are often simple, pared forms. Some works are abstractions of the human image or profile, inspired by and developed from drawings of people and sometimes iconic human images from history or other cultures.
