A collaboration in art & nature: Janet French & Emma Buckmaster

Artworks artist Janet French has recently begun an exciting collaborative art project with another artist, the printmaker Emma Buckmaster.

Quercus, Fordham, etching on oak leaf handmade paper

The aim of this project is to produce a series of etchings of native tree species printed on to paper created from the trees’ own leaves. Once completed, the delicate prints are trapped between two sheets of glass and framed to allow light to enhance the fine details of the image and the translucent quality of the leaves.

Five tree ‘portraits’ have now been completed and they are currently on show, together with other new work by Janet and Emma, at The Assembly House in Norwich, Norfolk.

The exhibition runs from Friday 2nd December 2011 to Monday 2nd January 2012, open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5pm.

Tilia, Braxted, etching on Lime leaf handmade paper

The flowers of the Common Lime have a narcotic effect on bees which may be found asleep under the tree.  The branches are full of mistletoe and the leaves have been used to make the paper on which the tree portrait is printed.

Emma and Janet currently co-Chair the Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop in Sudbury, Suffolk.

Artists Making an Exhibition of Themselves!

Coming soon…

Artists Making an Exhibition of Themselves!

Saturday 1st October 2011, from 6pm to 9pm.

Artists Making an Exhibition of Themselves (or AMET) is a special evening of artists demonstrations, in association with the annual Artworks exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn.

AMET is a special evening event when some of our Artworks artists set-up mini working studios in front of their work in the Artworks exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn, to demonstrate the media, materials & techniques used in their art, ready to answer any questions that visitors to the exhibition may have about their art. It’s like visiting ‘open studios’ but it’s all under one roof!

ARTWORKS Exhibition : pictures from the preview evening

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful people who attended the Artworks preview evening last friday. We had over 500 guests through the doors and we were blessed by some late afternoon sunshine, making it a most memorable & enjoyable evening in such a beautiful rural setting. Here are a few photographs from the Artworks preview evening.

Many artists’ works are proving very popular with visitors and art collectors alike, but if the work you like has sold or it is out of your budget, then pop into the Artworks shop.

The Artworks shop has a dynamic, evolving display of smaller, original paintings, prints, ceramics, sculptural glass & ironwork, together with an extensive range of artist greetings cards.

There was an assortment of delicious canapés and liquid refreshments to accompany the evening’s perusal of the art. On top of that, live music was supplied by the Gill Levin Jazz Trio! Utterly spoilt!
