We are looking for new artists join ARTWORKS!

Artworks are inviting professional artists living in East Anglia (Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex & Cambridgeshire) to join our group and take part in our annual showcase exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn.

Artworks are looking for new artists to join whose work is creative and innovative, enhancing the appeal & range of work in our annual exhibition, and artists who will also contribute ideas and enthusiasm to support to the aims & objectives of the Artworks group.

Artworks was established in 2000 and membership is strictly limited to thirty artists. Some of our artists take a sabbatical, providing the opportunity for new artists to join us for one year.

Artworks currently have vacancies for four full (permanent) and three temporary (one-year) artists.  If you are interested in joining Artworks, head on over to the Artworks website for more information on how to apply. The closing date for completed artist applications is 16 February 2013.

Ten Artworks artists in Ad Libitum Art Exhibition

More exhibition news on the Artworks blog!

Ten Artworks artists (past & present) have paintings currently on show at the stunning venue, The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds this November. The exhibition is called Ad Libitum, in reference to artists having a ‘free hand’ in their work.

All the work in the exhibition is new to Artworks, having not been exhibited in any previous Artworks exhibitions. The light & space of the upstairs gallery is a wonderful backdrop to everyone’s work – we hope you will visit if you are in the area!

The nine Artworks artists featured in this show are: Mike Ashley, Gillian Crossley-Holland, Helen Dougall, Helen Du Feu, Janet French, Jazz Green, Eleonora Knowland, Marianne Koby-Johnson, Katie Millard and Gabrielle Stoddart.

Some exhibition photographs will be posted shortly. The exhibition, Ad Libitum, runs from 29th October to 28th November 2012 (full details below).

John Glover : painting portraits in the Artworks exhibition

New to the Artworks group in 2102, the portrait painter John Glover has been paintings portraits in the current Artworks exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn, as part of our daily demonstrations programme.

The models for John’s two days in the gallery were also artists, two artists from Artworks, Valerie Armstrong and Liz Waugh-McManus.

Here is Valerie Armstrong sitting for her portrait, with John Glover at the easel.

Here is the finished portrait, which Valerie was very pleased with. Word has it that the sitters get to keep the painting.

On John’s second day of painting demonstrations in the Artworks exhibition, the sitter was artist Liz Waugh-McManus – and here is the result.

Visit John Glover’s website for more information on commissioning a portrait or attending one of his art tuition classes.

A different Artworks artist sets up a temporary studio space in the Artworks exhibition each day. The artist is in residence from 10.30am to 4.30pm. You can drop in at any time during the day to watch the artist at work or ask questions about media and techniques as there is no structured timetable to the day.
