Louise Chapman

I work mainly in oils on canvas, occasionally adding collage and in a strong contemporary style. Colour is my inspiration, the only planned element of my work and the starting point of all my work. I paint intuitively, meaning I have no fixed idea what the finished painting will look like. Both my Abstract and Semi Abstract paintings develop quite organically. As the composition progresses, I add what I feel necessary and continue in this way until I achieve a  successful balance of colour and composition. Each painting is the outcome of numerous transformations that I hope reveals a real sense of the great love I have of painting.

Biography
I am a Suffolk Artist who has been painting and successfully exhibiting across East Anglia for the past 10 years. I studied as a mature student at both Norwich City College and Norwich School of Art and Design.
Life rather got in the way of a career in Art, but I now consider myself a fortunate woman, having Art in my life, painting several days a week, doing exactly as I please, painting, exhibiting and selling my work.

Highlights include:
2018 Awarded Highly Commended emerging artist for my painting, ‘Indigo it’s in your jeans’ at the Wells Maltings inaugural exhibition for established and emerging artists across East Anglia, curated by Catherine Mason.
2019 Work selected for The Institute of East Anglian Artists prestigious annual Open Exhibition in Holt, North Norfolk. My painting, ‘The best gift comes in the smallest package’ was only one of five abstracts selected for the exhibition.
2019 Chosen as a guest artist for Artworks 2020.
