The first stage towards exhibiting with IBBAS is to join the Inspired by Becker Art Society. A Membership Form can be downloaded from the “Exhibition” page on the IBBAS website. The closing date for Membership Applications is 30th April 2016. Once a member, artists can elect to have a page set up on the IBBAS website. Details will be sent once membership is confirmed.
The ‘Inspired by Becker’ exhibition, first held in 2013, is now an annual event in the village of Wenhaston in Suffolk. It brings together over thirty East Anglian artists to celebrate and honour Harry Becker’s body of work by presenting their own artwork for sale.
Although exhibitors need to provide a short statement explaining how their work and practice is inspired by the work of Harry Becker, there is no requirement to paint in his style. The standard of work is always high. Many contributors are professional artists, but that is not a requirement.
The Inspired by Becker art exhibition has been enthusiastically supported by the artists and the public, who demonstrate their pleasure in the work we show, by generating sales in four figures over 3 days.

Who was Harry Becker?
Harry Becker lived in Wenhaston during the early years of the 20th century and was probably the last artist of note to record the work of the farming community in England before the advent of the tractor. His work is much admired by the artistic community for its immediacy and truth. Impressionistic in style, he had an unrivalled ability to capture the relentless toil of rural life. ‘Inspired by Becker’ acknowledges the debt owed to a painter who died in poverty and whose work was forgotten for almost 70 years. He died here in 1928.

The Inspired by Becker Society was formed to encourage painting & drawing by artists who are inspired by the work of Harry Becker – in subject or technique – promoting the appreciation of his work. Artist members can also enjoy sketching throughout the year with the plein air sketch group, or become involved in the ‘The Big Draw’ event in October.
A principle aim of IBBAS is to raise awareness of Harry Becker’s work by artists and by the general public, and they welcome new members to the Society. Check out the new website and get your artists applications in as soon as possible. You can also email ibbartsociety@gmail.com for more details.
