Evelyn’s work is deeply rooted in both materiality and concept, bridging the physicality of found objects with abstract interpretations of form and colour but this also overlaps with notions of excavation and the land. Her approach to printmaking—pushing beyond traditional methods—suggests an experimental and innovative practice, which is exciting given the historical weight of printmaking as a medium.

The idea of museums existing in our cupboards and imaginations is particularly evocative. It suggests that everyday objects hold histories and significance that might not be immediately recognized until they are framed in a new context. This aligns with her role as a mediator, selecting and presenting objects to invite deeper contemplation. The desire to truly understand our relationship with the shapes that surround us creating a unique visual language is Evelyn Polk’s approach as an artist.

Biography
Evelyn is an abstract artist and printmaker based in Suffolk. She graduated from the Cambridge School of Art with a First-Class Honours degree in Fine Art (Printmaking).
After a 13-year career teaching art in secondary schools and sixth form, Evelyn now works full-time from her home studio in Bury St Edmunds. Her practice explores abstraction through printmaking processes, combining technical precision with expressive mark-making.
She is a member of the printmaking collective 12 Printmakers, regularly exhibiting with the group, and has shown her work in galleries across the UK.
