I make ‘quiet landscapes’ responding to how I feel about the time and place. The world is rapidly changing and I explore themes of displacement and man’s humanity to man in the face of adversity. I ask myself what landscape means to me and the effect of its loss on us all.

I enjoy experimenting with oil and cold wax to create texture and depth in my figurative and landscape pieces. It enables me to play with layers of colour to develop mood and flow across a painting. I love the variety of landscape and light our island has to offer and am fascinated by colour combinations oil and cold wax can produce I response to these lands.

I prefer to sketch outdoors providing information and ideas for work back in the studio.

Biography
I have always drawn and painted whenever family and career allowed. I began drawing most days when I retired and painted using watercolours, acrylics and then oil. I attended a short course at Newlyn Art School to learn more about oil painting. A couple of years ago I worked with Nicki Heenan exploring pigments and oil and cold wax. I attend a life drawing group most weeks and am a member of Eye Arts Guild.

I have exhibited with other artists across Suffolk and in Bath. As a member of Suffolk Open Studios I have shared work in Snape Maltings, Framingham and Holton Lodge Barn. I was the ‘Art Out‘ resident artist for Halesworth Art Gallery in 2024.

I have a BA Hons in History and a BA in Art Education which I completed whilst teaching. Mostly I am self taught.
