Liz Waugh McManus

I work across sculpture and multimedia, combining 21st-century technologies with ancient glass-forming techniques. I explore physical and digital making to communicate diverse narratives, connecting humans with worlds on this planet and beyond. My artwork both celebrates the natural world and focuses on environmental vulnerability and human impact on biodiversity or climate change.

Biography
My practice-based PhD in the Glass Department at the University of Sunderland developed an ‘Internet of Glass Things’, blending the qualities of glass with the capabilities of electronics to create interactions and incorporate media to make playful artworks. My original art training was at Dartington College of Arts and Oxford Brookes.
I exhibit nationally/internationally and was commended in the Glass Sellers/CGS Graduate Prize 2024, longlisted for Lumen Prize ‘22 and received the Mike Davies Innovation Award ‘21.
