The themes that seem to be a constant in my work are light, colour and simplicity. I aim to get to the essence of what I am painting without too much information getting in the way. I like the viewer to bring their own emotions and experiences to the work when they spend time looking at it.

Collecting together work for the retrospective has been very interesting, giving me an overview to my approach. I have also found it enjoyable seeing the work again; they feel like old friends.

Helen Dougall: new exhibition at Edmund Gallery, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Helen Dougall, painter, printmaker and batik artist, has a new exhibition opening soon at The Edmund Gallery in Bury St Edmunds, from from Saturday 21st March – Thursday 26th March 2015.

Helen is sharing the exhibition with the ceramicist, Rob Wheeler.

The Edmund Gallery is situated on Angel Hill and is run by St Edmundsbury Cathedral as a non-profit art space. The gallery occupies rooms previously used by the cathedral’s education department. This exhibition is open to the public with kind permission of the Dean and Chapter of St Edmundsbury Cathedral

Liz Waugh McManus: Ripples – inspired by nature, exhibition at Pyramid Gallery

Liz Waugh McManus is to have some of her glass sculptures featured in a new exhibition, Ripples – Glass Inspired by Nature, at the Pyramid Gallery, York.

Liz was one of twenty six artists (out of over eighty entries from all over the world) whose work was selected for the exhibition organised by The Contemporary Glass Society (CGS).

As the organisers state: ‘Glass has the ability to emulate forms, patterns and structures found in nature; RIPPLES will highlight the breadth of inspiration that nature provides to many practicing glass artists.’

The exhibition will be a showcase for contemporary glass artworks. Ripples will feature contemporary glass artworks by: Ian Barrowcliffe, Effie Burns, Keith Cummings, Rachel Elliott, Peter Fricker, Laura Hart, Catherine Hough, Alisoun Howie, Elin Isaksson, Angela Jarman, Tlws Johnson, James Maskrey, Roberta Mason, Faith Mercer, Lisa Pettibone, Cathryn Shilling, Boris Shpiezman, Helen Slater, Nancy Sutcliffe, Peter Smyth, Graeme Thyer, JanHein van Stiphout, Liz Waugh McManus, Rachel Welford, Elke Westen, Amy Whittingham.
